Tim O’Brien joined in on the inaugural Veterans Reclaim Armistice Day panel, and the 2014 event will continue and expand the conversation on how humanities help veterans cope with the war experience. This will be a shared program of both VonnegutFest and The Spirit and Place Festival.  Kelly McKevers, an Iraq War correspondent for NPR, will moderate this year’s panel. The addition of women’s voices to this year’s panel should offer varied perspectives on the topic.

Others joining the conversation include Jim Brown, director of the Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs; Kenona Southwell from the Military Family Research Institute; Winnie Wilson from the Office of Veterans and Military Personnel at IUPUI; Andrew Schnieders, a veteran and high school music teacher; and Kimann Schultz, an author, illustrator, and Marine mom who will emcee the event.

The veterans event runs from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in Clowes Auditorium at the Central Library and will begin with an art resource fair. After the panel the Central Library will be sponsoring career services for veterans. Parking is  available under the library from Pennsylvania Avenue.

This is a free event, but you can reserve seats here. Didn’t make it last year? Check out the video from last year’s panel.
